Quantum Entanglement (The Lovers)

In a blink
all he thought he knew
subverted

With a wink
all she thought she outgrew
reawakened

On the brink
all their fates knocked askew
re-knotted

With a kink
all the cosmos curled a screw
unfastened

Interlinked
by indifferent ether Déjà vu
enraptured

I wrote this before coming up with a title for it. I got my title from here.

Each Day with Your Acquired Taste

Each Day with Your Acquired Taste

Expected you to execrate
and say “Yuck!”
repulsed by my
weak-willed brokenness.

Instead you dig in
for seconds and thirds,
gripping my hand,
entrenched.

Heroes
may not always save the day,
but often they
inspire others
to save themselves.

Your grit compels
broader palettes.

Spicy Teriyaki Nights

Spicy Teriyaki Nights

We feasted
solely upon each other
and spicy chicken teriyaki
from the restaurant
a half-block from our
carnal harbor.

Failing to define us,
we acquiesced,
indulging until sated.

Unfortunately,
you filled yourself with me,
leaving me half-starved.

I still miss you,
but despise teriyaki.

Written for dVerse Quadrille Monday prompt, hosted by Lillian, where the safe word is “harbor”.

Did I type “safe word”? My bad. I meant that the word “harbor” had to be included in the 44-word poem.

(But you can use it as a safe word if you like. I won’t judge! I’m not qualified to judge anyway. *wink*)

Lifted, Chopped, and Screwed Affirmations

Lifted, Chopped, and Screwed Affirmations

I am of hip-hop

Jazz is my mother

Soul is my father

My pulse, reclined

refined bass-line

My bones creak

counter-beats

I feed on funk

to find the funk

I count tempo

with Counts

Duke-out measures

with Dukes

My birthright,

American as

sweet-potato pie.

Hope is a Ghost

Hope is a Ghost

Her august leaf blushed first

among a sea of green.

Flitting about shrinking margins,

Hope craved seasonal embraces

that won’t come.

In her rosy bliss,

buffeted by autumn winds,

she was but the first to fall.

She’ll never know

her lover has moved on.

Vertigo Allegro in Indigo

Vertigo Allegro in Indigo

Clutched,

spun in terror,

gripped by rage,

my eyes deceive

Fire and grief,

I bleed, spinning, listening,

inhuman laughter splatters

Shattered visions falling,

screaming at the blur

unsure of perspective

Settling

upon my bed,

resting my head,

exchanging one dream

For another,

never waking

The Egregious Lie Regarding Tinkerbell’s Revenge

The Egregious Lie Regarding Tinkerbell’s Revenge

After Tinker Bell died,

Peter couldn’t remember her.

Do my dead parents

haunt my peripherals

because they fear similar fates?

Fairies are too small

to hold more than one feeling

at a time. When dreamy

unspoken words dissipate

into unsavory vapor,

I envy them.

A Dry Word from the Thirsty Gentleman by the Bar

A Dry Word from the Thirsty Gentleman by the Bar

I don’t want to

burden you

with overflowing

echoes of my emptiness,

but if your efflorescence

yearns for my warmth,

I’ll fill you with

my want

until

we’re both spilled,

replenished,

wrung.

But if

your echoed thirst

is misread

please enjoy this free drink.

Written for dVerse’s Quadrille #32, hosted by De Jackson, aka WhimsyGizmo. The wordplay of the day is echo.

When most of us think of the word echo, haunting, wistful imagery tends to come to mind. I wanted to try finding a silly counterbeat.

Day 25 – Universal Truth

Universal Truth

Crust moves, Earth-grooves, Jurassic pace

orbiting, spinning, winning annual race

sun streaks along axis, galactic arm

Milky Way hurtles away

from its collective farm

Infinite universe expands

under universal demand

I land on my back, dreamland,

earthbound in my remand

knowing nothing’s ever still.

My second still poem for dVerse Quadrille #31, hosted by Grace. I normally try not to go to the same well twice in a row during NaPoWriMo, but I’m sapped for ideas. I’m running on fumes and limping to the barn, but racking my brain is helping with my depression a bit, and I think I can make it to the end! Five more, people!

Day 24 – One Day, While Sprinting to Check the Mail

One Day, While Sprinting to Check the Mail

I spied a nonagenarian

struggling to our mailboxes,

sluggish enough

to be considered

still-life.

I offered to help him.

He unhurriedly

glanced my way.

“Young man,

don’t worry,”

he said with a wry

twinkling smile.

“None of us are getting out of here alive.”
